Meet Robert E. Feinstein, MD

Nationally Recognized Leader in Psychotherapy Education and Supervision

For more than four decades, Robert E. Feinstein, MD, has helped shape how clinicians learn, practice, and grow. As Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Donald and Barbara Zucker Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine, he has developed training programs, designed curricula, and supervised clinicians across multiple mental health disciplines, including psychiatry residents.

His work has been guided by a simple principle: clinical mastery develops through experience, feedback, and supervision—not through theory alone.

Clinical Expertise That Shapes Practice

Dr. Feinstein is internationally recognized for his contributions to psychotherapy supervision and the treatment of complex psychiatric presentations. His work has influenced generations of mental health professionals through teaching, supervision, scholarship, and clinical leadership.

He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves as editor of Primer on Personality Disorders (Oxford University Press, 2022), a leading resource for clinicians working with personality disorders and complex cases.

Leadership Across Academic and Clinical Settings

Throughout his career, Dr. Feinstein has served in senior academic and healthcare leadership roles, helping advance clinical education and patient care across institutions.

His leadership experience includes serving as Senior Associate Dean and Vice Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Dell Medical School, as well as Chief Medical Officer and Director of Education at Televero Health.
