Robert E. Feinstein, MD is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Donald and Barbara Zucker Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine and a nationally recognized leader in mental health and psychotherapy education and supervision. For over four decades, he has designed training programs, curriculum, and supervised mental health clinicians across disciplines including psychiatry residents.
He is internationally known for his work in the supervision of evidence-informed psychotherapy and the treatment of complex patients. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed article and is editor of Primer on Personality Disorders (Oxford University Press 2022).
He is the recipient of multiple national teaching awards including the University of Colorado's President's Teaching Scholar Award-the highest educational honor across four University of Colorado campuses; Teichner Scholar: The American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry. (2026 -2022 -2021);Teacher of the Year at six different medical schools; the American Psychiatric Association's prestigious Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents (2014), and the Association for Academic Psychiatry's Psychiatric Education Award (2023) honoring his lifetime body of work on the "Apprenticeship Model of Psychotherapy Supervision."
Dr. Feinstein has held senior leadership roles including Senior Associate Dean and Vice Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine , Dell Medical School, and Chief Medical Officer and Director of Education at Televero Health.
